Today would have been the 73rd birthday of Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff.
Cruyff began his playing career at Ajax, where he went on to win an incredible three successive European Cups between 1970 and 1973.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner scored some great goals during his playing days in Amsterdam too …
And how about this for a creative penalty routine?
In 1973 he joined Barcelona, where he would spend five years and win the LaLiga title and the Copa del Rey.
He was also capped almost 50 times for the Netherlands, and played in the 1974 World Cup final.
After finishing his career at Feyenoord in 1984, he would go on to manage both Ajax and Barcelona, smoothly transitioning from one of the all-time great players into one of the most innovative coaches the game has ever seen.
Cruyff was a mentor to Pep Guardiola, who has often said he owes everything to his former boss at Barça.
The great man sadly passed away in 2016 at the age of 68, but he has left an indelible mark on football for all eternity.
Happy birthday Johan.
