PANAMA CITY – CD Águila won 3-nil against Club Atlético Independiente in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Thursday at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City, Panama.

The victory secured a first-place finish for Águila in Group C and a spot in the quarterfinals. The Salvadoran club concluded the group stage with an unbeaten mark of three wins and one draw.

Ronald Rodríguez broke the deadlock in the 58' with a header in the box to convert an Águila corner kick. Alexander Larín delivered the service from the corner flag to collect the assist.

Blas Sosa extended the lead for the visitors in the 78' with a strike inside the penalty area. Santos Ortíz was influential in the build up by dribbling through the right flank before finding Sosa in the box.

Darwin Cerén added a third goal for Águila in the 80' with a right-footed hit inside the box, sending the ball to the bottom right corner of the net.

Panamanian side CAI bowed out of the tournament as the fourth placed team in the group.

CD Águila moves on to the knockout stage for the first time after being unable to advance out of the group stage in the inaugural edition.
