Edinson Cavani has told Manchester United chiefs that money won't convince him to stay.

Off contract in June, the player's father recently claimed his son is instead seeking a return to South America this summer, with Argentinian outfit Boca Juniors his preferred destination.

The Athletic says Cavani has told both vice-chairman Ed Woodward and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that an enticing financial offer to stay put in Manchester will not be enough to convince him to stay.

It is believed his frustrations amid the UK lockdown, which has prevented his family from travelling, socialising and schooling in new surroundings, are the driving force behind his wish to head back to South America, where he has plenty of family and friends.

The latter have also been unable to visit him in Manchester due to government restrictions, which has made it all the more difficult for him to fully settle in.
