Alex Valle is one of many Barcelona players returning to Catalonia this summer after a loan spell elsewhere.

The young left-back was on loan to Levante during the 2023/24 campaign. He was a first-team regular for the second-division side, as he featured in 29 league matches.

Although Valle was not able to help Levante seal promotion to the first team, he is returning to Barcelona with the hope of gaining a berth in the first team.

Key clause in Valle’s contract

Barcelona, though, are unsure about Valle’s future, at least for the time being and want him to become a part of Hansi Flick’s pre-season campaign, before they take any decision.

However, if Barcelona continue to bide their time, they could run the risk of losing Valle on a cut-price deal, as was the case with Marc Guiu.

According to Mundo Deportivo, a special clause in Valle’s contract dictates that Barcelona have the option to renew the youngster’s contract, which will increase his salary to €1 million or thereabouts.

But on the flip side, Alex Valle’s release clause will rise to €30 million from €8 million.

Time is running out

However, if Barça fail to activate the renewal clause by August 1, Valle’s release clause will drop to just €3 million.

This could be catastrophic for Barcelona, who have just lost Marc Guiu to Chelsea for peanuts. They are now running the risk of losing Valle for an even cheaper fee.

Valle, for his part, is aware of the fact that Marcos Alonso’s exit could help him gain a place in the first-team.

However, if Barcelona take too long in taking a decision over his future, his agents will have an option to find an offer from elsewhere.

Barcelona will need to tread carefully in the coming weeks. With a potential first-team spot available and their financial situation still precarious, Barcelona may be best served by giving their promising youngster a chance to prove himself.
