AC Milan and Chelsea have completed plenty of business together in the transfer market but they may now be about to do battle, according to a report.
According to the latest from CaughtOffside, Chelsea and Milan both want to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon with the Blues ahead in the race and in direct contact with the Ligue 1 club.
There were some initial conversations that happened through intermediaries as per the source but the London club are now negotiating directly with Lyon, who are asking for €50m for the 19-year-old.
However, Chelsea believe they can sign him for around €40m even though Cherki has a contract until 2025. Milan have also shown an interest in him, though Chelsea are currently ahead in the running because of their greater financial power.
Last season, Cherki racked up 39 appearances for Lyon across all competitions, with five goals and six assists to his name playing mostly as an attacking midfielder.
