Casemiro was ‘furious’ with Manchester United teammate, Bruno Fernandes, after picking up a yellow card against Crystal Palace.
Casemiro was booked for hacking down Wilfried Zaha in the 80th minute at Selhurst Park, a shocking tackle well worthy of a yellow card.
But the significance of it is that it was the Brazilian’s fifth caution of the Premier League campaign.
That means he will now miss Sunday’s huge clash against Arsenal.
At the time of Casemiro’s yellow, United were leading 1-0 thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ strike. A victory would have put them within five points of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s clash.
But the final 10 minutes against Palace proved to be pretty disastrous for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Not only did it see Casemiro pick up his fifth yellow card but Michael Olise produced a stunning free-kick in injury time to earn a draw.
What you may have missed, however, was that Casemiro was ‘furious’ with one of his teammates after picking up his booking.
There were no complaints over the refereeing decision but the midfielder stared out Fernandes before having a little chat with the goalscorer. He really didn’t appear happy.
And Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Redknapp, believes Casemiro was ‘furious’ with Bruno.
“We spoke before the game about Casemiro, don’t get a yellow card. Don’t get booked, don’t get in any confrontations, he is so important and they need him on Sunday,” Redknapp said.
“He gets booked and it is as if it took the sting out of Manchester United, it affected them so much, they knew their talisman and most important player in that defensive role had gone.
“It was a moment of madness, you can see he was furious with his teammate Bruno Fernandes, he jumps out of a challenge and that is how he ends up getting booked. It could have been a red card.
“Mikel Arteta would have been jumping around his living room, they [United] have got no one who can do like he does in the team.
“As a player in that position, all his career he has made those tackles, you get booked sometimes but it is instinct. It is what he has done, he doesn’t know what else to do.
“Of course he doesn’t want to make the challenge because he knows the consequences. But he is furious there with his player. If looks could kill. They just couldn’t get over it.”
As footage shows, Fernandes appeared to bottle a challenge which resulted in the ball falling to Zaha. It proved costly as it led to Casemiro taking one for the team in order to stop him.
Casemiro has been brilliant since signing from Real Madrid in the summer but Ten Hag reminded everyone after the match they’ve already beaten Arsenal without him.
“Last time we beat Arsenal without Casemiro,” said Ten Hag.
“Casemiro is obviously a really important player for us and he is one of the reasons that we are in the position that we are now.
“We have a squad and we have to fill that gap and make a proper plan and the squad has to fill it. As a team, we already showed how to beat Arsenal.”
