Manchester United’s summer signing Casemiro has admitted he was taken aback by the football culture in England compared to Spain.

The Brazilian joined a week before fellow Selecao member Antony, and the pair (along with Fred) were immediately welcomed with Brazilian flags displayed at home and away matches.

Fans became even more enthralled with the 30-year-old when he netted an injury-time equaliser against Chelsea in October. His celebration with the away supporters at Stamford Bridge showed the exact kind of passion supporters have been waiting to see from their players, even if it’s just over taking a point from a match.

As well as that, the quality he brings to the pitch is invaluable. His experience of the game shines through in every appearance and his desire to win every ball, every tackle and every game has made him worth his weight in gold. Casemiro is a five-time Champions League winner and ensured that he conquered Spain before leaving for England’s most successful club.

Casemiro hails United fans’ passion and support

In an interview with MUTV, he was asked about the difference between stadiums in Spain and England, he responded: “Both places have their good points, of course, but one of the things that has surprised me the most over here has been the supporters. The passion that they have for the game and how they really live for their football.

“When the weekend comes around, how the fans just live off their football. How the fans just exude football, and you can see that football is their passion and that football is their life.

“So it’s not just here at Old Trafford for the home games, but away from home too, wow, the fans are just incredible. The supporters, the atmosphere, the way the fans get behind us, just fantastic, and one of the things that has surprised me the most since coming to England.

“But you cannot want for anything more from our fans, and what’s more, you have to thank them for the way they support us and I have never seen anything like that before.”
