Former Manchester United coach Michael Carrick admits there was an emotional reaction after informing the players he was resigning following victory against Arsenal.
Carrick's decision to leave the club was "100% his own" as he made it three games unbeaten in charge of the club following their 3-2 win over the Gunners.
Carrick revealed that the players only found out about the news at the full-time whistle and there were emotional scenes in the dressing room after the announcement.
Asked if the players knew before, he said: "No, I just told them five minutes ago.
Asked how it went down, he added: "Probably a bit shocked and surprised. It's a little bit emotional in the changing room, I kinda expected that.
"I held it together, just about!
“It's not been easy to keep quiet about it for the last few days but I had a job to do. I'm not the important one here, and I was desperate to win the game for the players and the fans. It was a big night for us."
