Yannick Carrasco and his agent have taken their fallout with Dalian Yifang public, amid interest from Arsenal over a summer transfer.

Carrasco has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, but recently the potential deal has stalled, with Dalian Yifang reluctant to sell.

The situation became even more complicated when Carrasco arrived back from international duty late and ended up missing a club match. Dalian Yifang issued a statement suspending the winger and fining him, as well as asking for a formal apology.

Rather than back down, Carrasco and his agent Christophe Henrotay have decided to stand and fight their corner. First, Henrotay explained why the player returned late from international duty.

“Carrasco had discomfort in his knees after international duty,” Henrotay said. “He stayed in Belgium to get treatment. The club have received medical reports that proved it.

“The punishments imposed on Carrasco will not solve the deep-rooted issues. The situation you see now is a result of the club failing to tackle the source of the problem. They don’t put themselves in the player’s shoes.”

Transfer to Arsenal?

On a potential transfer this summer, Henrotay was insistent that his client should be allowed to leave. He confirmed Arsenal’s interest in a move but denied that the Gunners had submitted a formal offer.

“Yannick asked to leave at the beginning of this year, but eventually stayed at Dalian out of respect for the chairman,” Henrotay continued. “He was promised to be allowed to leave in summer. That didn’t happen. He is angry.

“No (Arsenal haven’t got an offer on the table). One club has submitted a formal offer. Other clubs showed interest and were ready to firm it up with a bid but Dalian said he’s not for sale. Yes (Arsenal are one of the interested clubs).”

Confirming that the agent isn’t acting alone, Carrasco then posted a statement of his own on the matter:

What next?

It certainly seems as if Carrasco will push hard for a transfer in the current window. However, the confirmation that the concrete offer on the table isn’t from Arsenal suggests things aren’t as advanced as previously reported.

For the time being, it looks as if Carrasco will be stuck sitting in the reserves. His head coach has already stated the 25-year-old will be out of tomorrow’s match, and perhaps all matches to come.
