Tailing off in the Championship last time out, the ambitions will be high at West Brom for the new campaign.

Conducting some excellent early business, Steve Bruce will be eager to continue that as the 2022/23 edges closer to its commencement.

With Daryl Dike preparing for what is expected to be a big season for the player himself and for the Baggies collectively, the USA international could still be joined by more forwards to bolster competition levels within the front line.

Sharing his thoughts on the exciting forward and addressing the forward line on the whole, former Baggies midfielder Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “I still think they need to bring in a striker or two strikers.

“The problem, like I’ve said, and we’ve repeatedly said, defensively they were very, very strong. They created a lot of chances and didn’t have a striker or a couple of strikers to convert those chances. Daryl Dike came in, came in a bit too late then picks up his injury.

“He’ll be massive for them. He’s proved he can score goals in the championship, that’s for sure.

“But I definitely see Steve Bruce in the hunt for another striker if not two before the season starts.”

The verdict

As Palmer has quite often alluded to in his conversations with FLW, the Baggies performed well defensively last season, and whilst bolstering options in the defensive third could still happen, it is more about adding firepower.

The Baggies have added lots of creativity already, with John Swift and Jed Wallace touching down at The Hawthorns, with another striker perhaps needed.

With Callum Robinson reportedly transfer-listed, an experienced striker, with a track record of scoring goals in the Championship, would add real value to the Baggies ahead of the upcoming campaign.
