Enjoying a strong start to the League One campaign, and with several individuals certainly playing below their level, Championship clubs could look at some of Sheffield Wednesday’s biggest talents in January.

However, with promotion back to the second tier a very realistic ambition for Darren Moore and Co. it remains to be seen if the lure of the second tier would sway any current Sheffield Wednesday players.

Sitting fourth in the league, and just two points from top spot, it has been a productive start for the Owls.

Sharing his thoughts on whether he could envisage Championship interest surfacing for key individuals at the Yorkshire club, Carlton Palmer told Football League World: “They’re going to have interest from other parties for their players that is for sure.

“But Sheffield Wednesday are on a project to get promoted. They will be playing in the championship next season.

“So, these players know that clubs are coming to knock for them. You know, Sheffield Wednesday will be a big club in the championship next season.”

The verdict

After narrowly missing out on promotion last time out, Sheffield Wednesday have added real quality and have seemingly upped it a gear thus far.

Now, there are several excellent teams fighting for two automatic promotion spots in this division, with the likes of Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town and Portsmouth also enjoying excellent starts.

Moore certainly has the personnel at his disposal to secure a top two spot come May, however, it is a 46-game campaign where the Owls have to consistently outperform two teams.
