According to journalist Rafael Ramos, Vela’s representatives have confirmed a conversation which took place between Vela and Emilio Azcárraga, chief executive of Televisa, who own Club América.

Ramos claims Azcárraga told Vela: “I’d love you to play for Club América at the age of 30 and retire there.”

Vela, who is 29, is said to have replied, “Sure, I’d love to.”

Before signing for Arsenal at the age of 17, Vela spent three seasons in the academy of América rivals Chivas Guadalajara.
