In the wake of their disastrous showing at the Copa por México, the pressure is on América to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming Apertura (rebranded as the Guard1anes 2020).

Las Águilas conceded eight goals in their four games in the tournament, leading many to call on manager Miguel Herrera to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Tigres may be willing to help them solve that problem, with reports that the San Nicolás club have offered centre-back Carlos Salcedo to the Azulcrema.

The sticking point is that Tigres would want midfielder Sebastián Córdova to go in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

Salcedo would bring a wealth of experience were he to link up with América.

The 26-year-old started his senior career at MLS side Real Salt Lake, and enjoyed spells at Chivas, Fiorentina, and Eintracht Frankfurt before moving to Tigres in January 2019.

There is also the added bonus of a prior relationship between player and manager, with Herrera having given Salcedo his international debut during El Piojo’s time in charge of Mexico.
