The January transfer window opens in less than a month, with rumours, pre-arranged transfer agreements and everything in-between starting to culminate.

January has often been an excellent period of recruitment for the Yorkshire club, with the likes of Duane Holmes and Sorba Thomas arriving in January 2021, whilst Emile Smith-Rowe was a January addition in 2020.

Despite the accumulating transfer talk in the Championship, Carlos Corberan has admitted to Yorkshire Live that he has not given the window much thought as of yet.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live about the January transfer window and about his current squad at his disposal, Corberan said: “I want to be very honest with you: if I was thinking right now about players I’m not working with, I never could put the team in the level I want to put them.

“My only focus is to move them to the highest level we can achieve and from the beginning of this year – and Steve Chicken, who is always in the press conference, he can say – that I am very pleased with my squad.

“I know that I have a very good squad to work with, and that’s why I understand that this year is a special opportunity. That’s how I see this season.”

The verdict

Huddersfield have surpassed a lot of Championship followers’ expectations this year by competing in and around the play-off positions.

Corberan has obviously assembled a squad that he is proud of, and one that he has full faith in beyond the January transfer window.

Opportunities may arise closer to the window opening, or during the manic month, but ultimately, if he was hoping to add to his squad, he would have paid more attention to the window already.

Huddersfield are five points and two places from the division’s top-six and will be striving for a play-off place as the season progresses.
