Carlos Carvalhal has refused to rule himself out of the running for the managerial job at Flamengo.
The Rubro-Negro parted ways with Renato Gaúcho last Monday following the 2-1 Copa Libertadores final loss to Palmeiras.
To add insult to injury for the Mengão, Atlético Mineiro officially deposed them as Brasileirão champions on Thursday.
Even more reason then for Flamengo to shift focus to next season, and Carvalhal is one of the heavy favourites to take the reigns at the Brazilian giants in 2022.
The 56-year-old is currently in charge of Braga in his native Portugal.
However he did little to dampen speculation linking him to Fla in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Primeira Liga clash against Estoril Praia.
“There are often approaches, and I always say that I have a contract and that they have to speak with Mr António Salvador,” Carvalhal said.
“It has happened recurrently and that is my position.
“If we like to see our name associated with one of the biggest clubs in the world like Flamengo? It’s obvious that I’m not indifferent, it’s a huge pride, but I’m always in the hands of my president António Salvador.”
Maurício Souza has been charged with leading Flamengo on an interim basis through the end of the season.
