Real Madrid defeated Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 on Wednesday to maintain their perfect start in the Champions League. It was also a win for Carlo Ancelotti to celebrate after the Italian equaled a record held by former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, according to MisterChip.

With the victory at the Santiago Bernabeú, Ancelotti recorded his 102nd Champions League win. Ancelotti has 102 wins in 182 matches, while Ferguson reached the milestone in his 186th match of 190 matches in Europe.

Ancelotti has won in Europe with eight clubs: Milan (40 wins), Real Madrid (31 wins), Chelsea (9 wins), Bayern (7 wins), PSG (6 wins), Napoli (5 wins), Juventus and Parma (2 wins).

The Italian has the opportunity to win again and take the record on Tuesday 11 October when Madrid face Shakhtar.

Pep Guardiola is on the verge of 100 victories in the Champions League. On Wednesday he claimed his 96th win in Manchester City’s 5-0 victory over Copenhagen.

Of those 96 victories, it is with City where Guardiola has the most victories (43) followed by his stint with Barcelona (30). With Bayern, he guided the German side to 23 wins in the competition.
