Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is giving consideration to what would be a headline-grabbing shake-up to his backline, for the club’s upcoming showdown with Barcelona.

Real are of course primed to lock horns with their arch rivals in the campaign’s first edition of El Clásico this weekend.

The matchup marks a hugely important one when it comes to the early-season title race, with Los Blancos in the knowledge that a defeat would see them slip a full six points off the pace being set by Hansi Flick’s side.

Should the reigning champions emerge triumphant, on the other hand, the two sides will find themselves locked at 27 points apiece.

And, as alluded to above, in efforts towards as much, the coaching staff at Real Madrid are considering a major personnel shift in defence.

As per a report from El Chiringuito TV, the change in question would see Éder Militão moved to right-back, in place of the less defensively sound Lucas Vázquez.

Any such move would come as a direct effort to limit the influence of Raphinha, with the Barcelona wide-man fresh off another scintillating display on the continent in midweek.

This would also see things altered at the heart of Ancelotti’s backline, with Aurélien Tchouaméni dropping in to partner Antonio Rüdiger.

All told, such changes would give rise to a defensive line of:

Militão – Rüdiger – Tchouaméni – Mendy

Conor Laird – GSFN
