It feels like pretty much every former Celtic player is being linked with a return to Parkhead these days. Jota did end up returning in the winter while Kieran Tierney has already signed a pre-contract agreement with his boyhood club and will be back in the summer, when his contract with Arsenal is set to expire.
Recently, rumours have cropped up about Kristoffer Ajer being a potential replacement for Cameron Carter-Vickers, if the American ends up leaving in the summer. Odsonne Edouard could potentially be an option for the striker role as well, as the Frenchman has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League since leaving in 2021.
Another former Celtic player who has been linked with a return to the club, on and off, is Carl Starfelt. The Swede headed out in the summer of 2023.
Somewhat surprisingly, he was heavily linked with a move back to Celtic last summer. It did not transpire, but there is still speculation surrounding his future with Celta Vigo. Starfelt has come out and cleared the situation though, as it looks like a return to Glasgow is not on the cards.
The centre-back seems comfortable with his position at Celta Vigo. As reported by fotbollskanalen, Starfelt said:
"I feel very comfortable at Celta Vigo. Then there will always be rumors. But I have a contract for two more years after this season and, as I said, I feel very comfortable."
When question whether he had told his agent that he'd rather stay, Starfelt said:
"Yes, or I haven't spoken to my agent about it at all. He obviously knows that I'm enjoying it very much. Then I focus on my football and he'll take care of the rest."
To be honest, there does not seem to be much reason for Starfelt to leave right now. He is playing regular football as a starter for Celta Vigo, who sit at eighth in La Liga at the moment and are still in the race for European qualification.
At 29 years of age, that seems like a decent level for Starfelt. He is playing regular football at a mid-table club in a top-five European league.
