Het Nieuwsblad have revealed that Carl Hoefkens has decided against joining KV Mechelen in favour of NAC Breda. The former Club Brugge and Standard Liege head coach had been wanted by KV Mechelen to become their head coach for the 2024/2025 campaign. However, the former Stoke City man appears to prefer joining Dutch second tier side Breda.
To be fair to Breda, they do have a chance of promotion this season. The side are currently playing in the promotion play-offs and beat Roda convincingly over two legs, despite being the lowest ranked team in the competition and their opponents having missed out on automatic promotion on the final day. Breda are currently level with FC Emmen following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
The second leg will take place on Saturday afternoon and the winner will face either ADO Den Haag or Excelsior.
