Antonio Careca names the key Napoli players, beyond Scott McTominay, in their Serie A title race but reveals he’ll only arrive in town on Sunday as he couldn’t change his flight when the Partenopei’s game was rescheduled.
Napoli dream of winning their second Serie A title in three years. An achievement they will fulfil if they beat Cagliari at the Stadio Maradona tonight.
Scotland international McTominay has had a fantastic debut season in Naples and is among the candidates for the Best Player of the Season in Serie A.
“It was an unexpected impact, for his authority and his goals,” Careca told Gazzetta.
“He was more decisive than the others. He knew how to lead in some key moments towards the Scudetto. Others were just as important: Meret with some saves, Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Politano and Raspadori who scored a few goals in the last games. Of course, Lukaku and Neres as well. Napoli have great quality, Inter were stronger on paper, but the stronger team doesn’t always win.”
Careca had planned to fly from Brazil to watch Napoli’s final game at the Stadio Maradona, but he could not change his plans when the match was scheduled for Friday night.

“I’ll arrive on Sunday because I had booked my trip to be there for the final match and I couldn’t change my flight after the schedule changed,” revealed the ex-Brazil international and a former Napoli Scudetto winner.
“This celebration belongs to these guys, certainly not me. I’ll stay at the hotel to watch and admire them. They’ve earned all this. The final minutes in Parma were exhausting, waiting for the result in Milan, but this only made everything more wonderful.
“Napoli only miss the final step, and I’m sure they’ll make it, because this group knows how to handle the approach to the Cagliari game,” Careca concluded.
