Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has addressed the future of winger Thapelo Maseko, stating that the talented player will remain with the club beyond the current transfer window.

The Brazilian contingent at the club has recently been at the centre of media attention, with reports suggesting discontent among some players.

In one of the most notable stories of the transfer period, it was reported that Sundowns star Lucas Ribeiro Costa, through his legal representatives, has approached FIFA in an effort to terminate his contract with the Tshwane giants.

This development follows reports that Masandawana rejected lucrative offers from a Qatari club and Fluminense for Ribeiro, whose performances at the Club World Cup over two months ago drew significant admiration.

So far this season, the current PSL Footballer of the Season has not featured for Sundowns in the 2025/26 campaign as he attempts to force his way out of the club.

The quick winger had also attracted interest from Aris Limassol of Cyprus, though a transfer ultimately failed to materialize.

Cardoso has confirmed that Maseko will stay with Sundowns, suggesting he could take on a more prominent role following Ribeiro’s absence.

“He will remain with us after the window closes — there’s no reason why he shouldn’t,” stated Cardoso. “He is a Mamelodi Sundowns player, part of the squad, and as far as I understand, the club has no intention of letting him go. He has been training with focus.

With Lucas Ribeiro unavailable on the right, Maseko is a natural option for that position. He is competing for his place, and I want all my players to feel motivated. Giving them opportunities helps maintain that drive. Every player in this group is part of our plans — no one is excluded.”
