Huddersfield Town will be expecting plenty of interest in Sorba Thomas over this coming summer, with the Welsh international one of the shining lights of their relegation campaign.

The former Boreham Wood man excelled on the flanks during his time for the Terriers, while he has one of the best set-piece deliveries in the whole of the EFL.

His delivery from a dead-ball situation earned the Yorkshire side plenty of goals and chances across the 2023/24 campaign; highlighted by the fact that defender Michal Helik was top scorer with nine goals by the time the season came to a close.

With 13 goal contributions for a struggling Town side, the influence Thomas could make in a team with a fluent attacking threat could be massive, and there will likely be plenty of interest in his services this summer.

Sorba Thomas’ set-piece threat could tempt Cardiff City, Millwall or Norwich City into summer move

Since making the move to the Football League from Boreham Wood in 2021, Thomas has proven himself to be a capable operator at Championship level, with his strong performances earning him eight caps for Wales in that time.

Whether he is terrorising defenders up and down the flanks, or whipping in deliveries from set-piece situations, the 25-year-old has more than made a name for himself after a flurry of outstanding performances for a side struggling in the second tier.

It is the latter of those two qualities that could turn heads for a number of Championship clubs this summer, with Town said to be willing to listen to offers in the £750,000 region for the Welshman, according to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

That fee would be a great piece of business for the likes of Millwall, Cardiff City or Norwich City, who all benefited massively from dead-ball situations during the 23/24 campaign.

The Bluebirds were the side to register the most goals from such scenarios, with 21 of their 53 strikes during the Championship season coming from a restart in the game, two more than second-best Ipswich Town.

The Canaries were also strong in that regard with 18 goals, while Neil Harris’s men stuck the ball in the back of the net 15 times once a delivery had been put into the penalty area after play resumed.

It remains to be seen if things will remain as they were at Carrow Road given City’s managerial change in recent weeks, with David Wagner replaced by former Nordsjaelland manager Johannes Hoff Thorup in Norfolk.

There will be no such issues at Cardiff or Millwall though, with Erol Bulut signing a new two-year deal with the Welsh club earlier this week, while Harris remains in charge at The Den with no changes to playing style likely to happen anytime soon.

Sorba Thomas would be the perfect fit for Cardiff City, Millwall attacking threats

Thomas’ reliability from set-pieces is something that cannot be rivalled across the EFL, with his pinpoint deliveries whipping into the perfect position more often than not when he is given the opportunity.

You only have to look at the underlying numbers of his 23/24 campaign to see the threat he poses, with his nine assists putting him within the top ten creators in the second tier, while his 123 key passes can only be topped by Ipswich Town’s Leif Davis (125).

No player produced more crosses than the 474 that Thomas fizzed into the penalty area last season, while a further 159 progressive carries proves he is much more than just a set-piece merchant.

Although his free kick and corner abilities are top drawer, the 25-year-old offers much more than just that in his game, and shouldn’t be pigeonholed for his ability to whip in an outstanding delivery on a consistent basis, with his work rate on the flanks earning him plenty of admirers during his time at Town.

Whether he is tracking back defending or trying to beat a man on the wings, Thomas offers plenty of dimensions to his game, and would be an ideal addition for plenty of sides in the second tier next season.
