Cardiff City’s January transfer plan for striker revealed

Cardiff City will loan out striker Mark Harris when the transfer window reopens in Janaury, a report from a print edition of The Sun (19/09, p61) has claimed.

Harris was linked with loan moves to League One duo Rotherham United and Fleetwood Town during the summer window, but ultimately no deal materialised.

The 22-year-old has since gone on to feature in six of Cardiff’s eight league matches this season, although he has yet to score or complete 90 minutes for the club since the start of the campaign.

Now it seems that despite the run in the first-team squad that Harris has enjoyed in recent months, it seems he will still be on the move temporarily come the turn of the year.

According to this latest update, Cardiff are willing to let Harris leave the club on loan for the second half of this season, in order to give the striker the chance to get more first-team experience.

Harris has previously had spells on loan in League Two and the National League with the likes of Port Vale, Newport and Wrexham, and has two years remaining on his contract in the Welsh capital.

The Verdict

This does look as though it could be a smart move for Cardiff to make with regards to Harris in January.

While he has featured for Mick McCarthy’s side on a number of occasions this season, it feels as though Harris has yet to really establish himself for the Bluebirds.

A loan move in January could give him the experience to that at another level, where he may be able to find his goalscoring touch on a more consistent basis.

That could then give the 22-year-old the confidence and momentum to really make an impact for Cardiff when he returns to the club for the 2022/23 campaign, meaning this is a move that could work well for all concerned.
