The Belgian club have rekindled their interest in Nyakuhwa

Belgian Pro League giants Anderlecht have rekindled their interest in Cardiff City youngster Tanatswa Nyakuhwa in the final days of the summer transfer window.

That is according to a fresh update from Lyall Thomas and Mark McAdam of Sky Sports on the publication's Transfer Centre Live Blog (14:35 / 25/08), with the 19-year-old forward the subject of a potential loan offer from the side now managed by Besnik Hasi, although the Bluebirds have reiterated their stance that the homegrown prospect is not for sale.

Cardiff have enjoyed a strong start to life in League One following their relegation from the Championship last term, with new head coach Brian Barry-Murphy overseeing an unbeaten start to life across all competitions, with the side from the Welsh capital currently sitting top of the table following Saturday's 1-0 away success against fellow newly-relegated Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

The former Rochdale boss has handed out plenty of opportunities to some of the most highly-rated talents to come through the ranks at the Cardiff City Stadium in the opening weeks of his tenure amid an extremely slow-moving window in terms of incomings, with goalkeeper Nathan Trott his only signing thus far on a loan with an option-to-buy from FC Copenhagen.

Several names have departed since the conclusion of last season, and whilst Nyakuhwa could follow suit, Cardiff will only sanction his exit on a temporary basis.

The Belgian giants' interest in the young forward was first registered in January under the then-management of David Hubert, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

The journalist's update at the time stated that Cardiff had received an enquiry from the Brussels club, and that his development had been monitored for upcoming transfer windows - a scenario which has clearly played out given the above fresh update.

Nyakuhwa was one of 12 players to put pen-to-paper on professional contracts last summer at the Cardiff City Stadium, and he went on to make his professional bow for the Bluebirds with a 21-minute cameo in the 4-2 defeat away to Norwich City on the final day of last season, as well as being an unused substitute in a 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup and the 2-1 victory in the EFL Cup against League Two side, Swindon Town, earlier this month.

It has now been reported by Sky Sports that the seven-time Welsh Under-19 international is the subject of a potential loan offer from Anderlecht, now managed by former Olympiacos boss, Besnik Hasi.

The update continues to state that Cardiff have ruled out the possibility of a permanent move to the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, and that their preference is to see Nyakuhwa make a loan departure to a side either in League One or League Two for the remainder of the campaign.

It is clear how highly-rated Nyakuhwa is by those behind-the-scenes in the Welsh capital, and losing his services at this stage of his career could, in the future, leave a major sense of transfer regret.

Whilst on a personal level, the youngster could be lured to Anderlecht given their pedigree in Europe, it remains to be seen whether he would sample regular minutes at this moment in time, especially after only being utilised by Cardiff once at senior level under the temporary management of Aaron Ramsey - which came on the final day with relegation already confirmed.

Links to a club of their stature also showcases the potential Nyakuhwa is yet to realise, and a move to the lower reaches of League One or League Two could aid his physical and mental development in a scenario where progressing by any means possible, due to potential budget constraints or pressure, is the most important thing for several managers.

Cardiff may also be less-inclined to sanction an exit for Nyakuhwa following Ollie Tanner's injury against AFC Wimbledon, which is set to keep the winger sidelined for four months and further depletes City's stable of wide-men, with Cian Ashford and Chris Willock now representing the only two senior, out-and-out options in that area of the pitch.
