Cardiff City have confirmed that Mark Hudson has left the club after their 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The former player was named as Steve Morison’s successor earlier this season but it’s fair to say his arrival hasn’t had the desired impact, as the Bluebirds continued to struggle.

Failure to beat the Latics, who equalised deep into stoppage time through Will Keane, means Cardiff are without a win in eight in the Championship, leaving the side just one place and three points above the relegation zone.

Therefore, the pressure has been building on Hudson and the club announced on their official site this evening that they have made the call to sack Hudson.

Dean Whitehead is taking charge of the first-team as they begin the search for his successor and the ex-Stoke City midfielder is likely to lead the team for the FA Cup replay at Leeds United in the week.

The next league fixture for the Bluebirds is a big one against Millwall at home in seven days time.

In isolation you could argue that this is harsh because Cardiff were seconds away from picking up three points today and it was a real tough one to concede like that.

But, in the bigger picture, Hudson just hasn’t been able to change their fortunes and relegation seems like a very real possibility this season.

So, you can understand why the hierarchy have acted and they simply must get this appointment right as Cardiff look to push up the table.
