Adil Rami, the captain of Troyes, has expressed his frustration with the team’s performance after they suffered another defeat against Clermont (2-0) in Ligue 1. Troyes are now in 18th place, and seven points away from the 16th position, which would guarantee their survival in the top tier of French football. Rami believes that some of his teammates have given up on the idea of staying up, and that the team’s attitude needs to change if they are to avoid relegation.

Speaking to Prime Video after the game, Rami said “I don’t give a damn, I am 37 years old and my career is done”. He also expressed his concern for some of his younger teammates, who may struggle to bounce back from the disappointment of going down: “I don’t know if I’m sad for some players who are giving up on their careers. They will have to question themselves. The mentality is not good, and the defeat was logical.”

Rami also revealed that he and his teammates discuss their mistakes during training, but he feels that these discussions are not being put into practice on the field: “We can’t be sleeping on the details like this. We talk about it, but I have the impression that on the field, it goes in one ear and out the other.”

The defender was particularly critical of the team’s performance against Clermont, who he felt were the better team on the day: “We didn’t see a team that wanted to fight to stay up. We lowered our heads, and we gave them the match. I don’t know why. We didn’t show a good image.” With Marseille up next for Troyes, Rami knows that the team will need to improve quickly if they are to have any chance of avoiding relegation.
