“Can’t see any other outcome” – Man United told their maneuver won’t work against Liverpool

Manchester United are desperate to halt their shocking fall in the standings, but can they pull themselves back up at the expense of league leaders Liverpool?

For Alan Shearer, the answer is most likely not, as the Premier League all-time goalscorer delves into the Red Devils’ grim chances of finding success at Anfield.

The two blood rivals reach Sunday’s contest on the back of strikingly contrasting runs. The home side is leading the Premier League table and appears to be the champion-elect even though we remain mid-way through the season, with Arne Slot seamlessly adjusting to life in England.

On the contrary, Man Utd endured a miserable first half of the season, and the managerial change hardly changed the script. If anything, the club fell to new lows following Ruben Amorim’s arrival, currently sitting in a miserable 14th in the standings.

Therefore, Shearer doesn’t expect the faltering United to kickstart a revival this weekend, especially based on their recent display against Newcastle United.

“Newcastle went to Old Trafford and for 30 minutes made Man United look like a youth team, they were really that poor. I can’t see United improving that much to get anything from this game and I’d be amazed if they did,” said the legendary English striker via Metro.

“I know it’s a huge fixture and it’s produced some great games over the years, but I can only see one winner in this game and it’s Liverpool.

“If United are as poor as they were in the opening half an hour against Newcastle, then you would be really worried for this one as a fan. They would have to improve massively, with the number of chances Liverpool create you would really fear for Man United in this one.”

Shearer expects Amorim to adopt the same counter-attacking approach witnessed against Manchester City, but he doesn’t see it working this time around.

“Having said that, they sat deep and defended against Man City last month, winning that game by trying to hit them on the break. That’s the way they’ll try to play this game, but this Liverpool team I think are different gravy this season, so I wouldn’t imagine that will be too much of a problem for them.

“I can’t see any other outcome than a Liverpool victory and scoring a few goals in the process.”
