Having first been hired by Canada Soccer in 2011, Herdman has been a major part of the country’s improvement at both men’s and women’s levels.

First coaching the women’s team, he overhauled their program and led them to two Olympic Bronze medals.

More recently, he guided the men’s team to their first World Cup since 1986 but according to sources, continued financial instability have led to him taking up the Toronto job.

TFC have just nine games left in their season and currently sit bottom of the Eastern Conference with 19 points from 26 games, which led to the sacking of Bob Bradley in June.

Herdman will not be in charge for his new club’s next game, against Philadelphia Union on August 30th.

There is no word as yet on who might replace him in the Canada hot seat, with their next game a friendly against Japan on October 13th.
