Canada kicks off campaign in Women’s U-17 Qualifiers

MIAMI – The Final Round of the 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-17 Qualifiers continues Tuesday with the opening matches in Group B, as 12 nationals teams compete for the four available spots in the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2025.
Puerto Rico vs. Panama
The first meeting of the day will see Puerto Rico face Panama at Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua.
With a perfect record of three wins, Puerto Rico is set for a fifth appearance in the Final Round after finishing first in Group A in Round One. Las Boricuas are in the hunt for a historic first-ever qualification to a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Forward Gabriella Garnett was a key figure for Puerto Rico in Round One, playing 270 minutes and scoring one goal against Bermuda and a brace against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Panama advanced to the Final Round by topping Group C with victories in each of its Round One matches. Las Canaleras will make a fifth appearance in the Final Round and are also in search of advancing to a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
Attackers Shady Mow and Alison Onodera were in stellar form in Round One. Mow scored in every match, netting a brace against Turks and Caicos Islands, a goal against Guyana, and a hat-trick against Cuba, while Onodera scored braces against Turks and Caicos Islands and Cuba.
Canada vs. Nicaragua
Canada and Nicaragua close out the evening with the second game of the matchday at Estadio Nacional in Managua, Nicaragua.
Canada will begin its campaign in the 2025 qualifiers after earning a place directly in the Final Round as one of the four top-ranked teams. The Reds previously won the title in the 2010 edition of the tournament and will aim to advance to an eighth FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nicaragua secured its spot in the Final Round by claiming first place in Group E in Round One. La Azul y Blanco will make a third appearance in the Final Round and will look to qualify to a FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time.
Mitzy Canales was one of the main players for Nicaragua in Round One, delivering one assist against Saint Kitts and Nevis and scoring one goal against Jamaica.
