Wingback Tajon Buchanan could come off the bench for Inter Milan in Sunday’s Serie A match against Venezia.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that there is a good chance that the Canadian could make his first appearance of the season.
Buchanan has not yet played for Inter this season.
The 25-year-old has missed the entirety of the campaign due to a long-term injury.
Buchanan suffered a broken leg during the summer. He fractured his tibia in training with the Canadian national team during the Copa America.
This was an injury that required surgery and then a lengthy subsequent recovery period.
Therefore, it was little surprise that Buchanan missed out on preseason with Inter as well as the first few months of the campaign.
Buchanan recovered in September. He made his return to individual training in the second half of that month.
But the Canadian has still had a long period in which he has had to regain match-fitness since then.
Buchanan has been full training with the rest of the Inter squad for around a week now.
Therefore, it has only been a matter of time before the former Club Brugge wingback would be back on the pitch.
It will be up to Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi to decide when and how to gradually reintroduce Buchanan in matches.
And Tuttosport report that this Sunday’s match against Venezia could present an ideal opportunity.
Buchanan certainly will not be thrust straight back into the starting eleven for Inter.
But the Canadian will be available.
And Inzaghi would be ready to hand Buchanan a chance to come onto the pitch in front of the Nerazzurri fans at the San Siro.
Particularly with Carlos Augusto on the sidelines until after the November international break, Inzaghi will certainly want to have Buchanan in the rotation on the flanks.
