Canada have dropped captain Christine Sinclair from their starting lineup for Wednesday’s crunch game against Ireland.

Sinclair is at her sixth World Cup and had previously started at every single World Cup finals match she had attended as a Canada player.

The 40-year-old is the highest international goalscorer of all-time, men’s and women’s, with 190 goals in 324 games for her country.

Sinclair had a penalty saved as Canada drew their opening match 0-0 with Nigeria.

If she is to make amends against Ireland, she will have to do so from the bench.
