Can Rangers REALLY win 56 this season? Big Phil says yes….

With manager Philippe Clement cryptically suggesting Rangers could win 56 this season, it does raise the question; can we?

Can our club defy being behind Celtic on and off the pitch, and somehow pull off what would be a colossal title and get to 56 first, remaining two titles ahead? Or will Celtic equalise our 55 this season?

The harsh reality is they are a better team than us, better run, better players, and arguably a better manager.

Ibrox Noise wasn’t worried at all by the return of Rodgers over there, he’d only beaten a rotten newly-promoted Rangers since 2016 and showed nothing during his time there that he could beat a strong Rangers. Steven Gerrard started to get the better of him and he left.

The problem is this still/now isn’t a strong Rangers (again), and Rodgers’ record against this weak Rangers is pretty much flawless.

Rodgers faced Mark Warburton, Pedro, then a fledgling Gerrard before he himself left, to the hatred of his fans, and now he’s back, once again facing a circus Rangers, first overcoming Michael Beale and now getting the better of Philippe Clement.

Rodgers might have money which Clement lacks, but he also seems to use his players properly, something Rangers’ boss has been as loathe to do as his predecessors were.

With a fully-fit squad Clement still picks strange personnel choices, leaving strong options benched and starting, till recently, with the likes of Ben Davies and Scott Wright, not to mention perennial underachiever Connor Goldson.

But the majority of fans just yell ‘back the manager’ like the ‘happy clappers’ that these blind-faith loyal are now being labelled.

The guy could be starting Ronald McDonald up front and these fans just yell ‘support the manager ffs’.

And this is while Rodgers is putting square pegs in square holes and scoring 12 goals in the league without reply while Rangers shine only against third-bottom Ross County who haven’t won a match this season.

This is not to relieve the board and players of responsibility, but as long as Rodgers uses his players correctly and Clement plays his out of position with no identity and no structure, it’s hard to see anything other than a title win for the east.

Clement might say he thinks he can win the title, but he’s not making it easy for himself to do so.
