Liverpool pulled out of a deal for Nabil Fekir in 2018 because of a knee problem but Arsenal should not be concerned over potentially signing him, according to Kevin Campbell.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners striker, who has watched Real Betis’ Fekir regularly while working as a pundit for La Liga TV, said “any fears” regarding the 27-year-old’s injury record “have gone”.

According to Goal, the Gunners are keeping tabs on Fekir as a possible alternative to Martin Odegaard this summer.

Liverpool were very close to signing Fekir from Lyon in the summer of 2018, but reportedly pulled out of a deal after the attacking midfielder failed a medical because of a long-term knee problem.

The France international has played over 30 games in the three seasons and Campbell is adamant that Fekir has no long-term injury problems.

“A really, really good player,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.

“Do not forget that Liverpool were going to make him part of their revolution a few years ago. They were talking about a £50million deal. I remember it went down to the last minute but a knee problem caused them to pull out at the last minute.

“I have watched him a lot at Real Betis over the past two seasons and he is an amazing player.

“Any fears regarding his injury have gone. There is no problem there and he has been excellent.”
