Is the standoff in Cameroon between Samuel Eto'o and Marc Brys finally coming to an end? At the very least, the president of Fécafoot has taken a step in support of the national coach.
Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fécafoot), caused a stir this Wednesday by announcing an unexpected initiative for his coach Marc Brys. Speaking before members of the Fécafoot Executive Committee, Eto'o declared: "Thanks to you, tomorrow I will be able to sign the contracts for coach Marc Brys's staff and proceed with paying their outstanding salaries. You've allowed me to amend certain financial regulations we have, and this reflects your ambition to elevate our football."
By unblocking this contractual deadlock, Samuel Eto'o is sending a double message. On one hand, he is demonstrating that he remains firmly in charge on the administrative front, while on the other, he is partially defusing criticism about the precarious situation of the technical staff. Although the responsibility for paying the technical staff lies with the Ministry of Sports, this move also allows the Fécafoot president to reaffirm his commitment to the professionalization and financial stability of Cameroonian football.
