Cameroon take home third in this year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament after beating Burkina Faso on penalties on Saturday.
Scorers: Yago 24′, Ouattara 49′; Onana 43′ (OG), Bahoken 71′, Aboubakar 85′, 87′
As one of the stories of the tournament, Burkina Faso’s magical AFCON run looked like it was going to continue as they took the lead over hosts Cameroon through Steeve Yago.
And their luck stayed as the first half continued on. Unfortunately for Cameroon, an error from Ajax goalkeeper André Onana saw things turn 2-0 and Djibril Ouattara went on to add a third after the break.
However, not down and out just yet, a late push from the hosts saw them get themselves back with a stunning comeback.
Late in the game, Stéphane Bahoken pulled one back and a brace in the dying moments from super-sub Vincent Aboubakar saw things go from 3-0 to 3-3.
As the match went into extra time, neither side could find the back of the net again seeing the game go to a penalty shootout where the hosts managed to win 5-3.
