Mestalla will play host to a cracking fixture between Valencia and Real Madrid. The men in white received some well deserved rest and now will hope to continue from where they left off.

David Alaba is expected to return soon and provide some extra depth to Madrid’s defence, but for now, Ancelotti will have to do without him.

Here is how Real Madrid can lineup against Valencia.

GK: Thibaut Courtois

Has conceded 5 times in the last two league outings and the Belgian would look to put in a better performance and record a clean sheet in the first match of the year.

Ended a tough first half of the season with a brilliant outing against Sevilla. Will look to pick off from where he left off.

CB: Aurelien Tchouaméni

He’s a player in this squad who would want to change his fortunes after an underwhelming string of performances. The Frenchman has looked better as a centre-back and will be looking to up his form in this position.

Received a good break after being involved in 25 of the 26 matches Real Madrid has played this season. Will look to be the leader at the back yet again and keep Hugo Duro quiet, who has been Valencia’s best attacker this season.

LB: Eduardo Camavinga

Was a surprise to see him play as a left-back in the last match but he did not disappoint. The Frenchman recorded an assist and had a good defensive outing too. Him playing here will allow Ancelotti to play an extra midfielder.

Truly been a revelation and has given the Italian manager a headache to chose a midfield for a match. Has played in a deeper role, contributing in defence and allowing Jude Bellingham to play more freely.

CM: Fede Valverde

A constant in Madrid’s midfield. 5 goals in La Liga – all from outside the box – along with 2 assists in 18 outings so far. At this point, won’t be surprised to see him score another banger from outside the box.

CM: Jude Bellingham

Has played with more freedom in recent matches which allowed the Englishman to go on 6-match goal scoring streak in the league which came to an end against Sevilla. After an illustrious 2024, Jude will hope to start the new year with a bang.

RW: Rodrygo

3 goals and 2 assists in the last 3 matches. His place in the lineup was being questioned but the Brazilian put the doubts to bed and would hope to extend his purple patch.

The match against Sevilla was arguably his best outing of the season. Man of the Match with a goal and assist. The crucial phase of the season begins from tonight and the Frenchman will be playing a vital role.

The best player in the world, Vini has been extraordinary yet again with 8 goals and 5 assists in 14 league fixtures. The Brazilian was suspended for the last match and he returns to the Mestalla – a ground where he has scored 3 goals, 1 assist and also received a red card. He has seen it all here and would look took play a part in a win and improve Real Madrid’s record here at the Mestalla.
