Callum Styles has insisted that he isn’t thinking too much about his future right now and is instead living in the moment amidst his current loan spell at Millwall.

Styles headed to The Den on loan in the summer following Barnsley’s relegation to League One, but prior to departing, signed a new deal with the Tykes said to include a release clause.

Millwall could potentially be a team that could trigger that clause next summer once his loan deal expires, but when asked whether or not he had thought about where he would be playing his football next season, Styles was non-commital.

“Not too much. You’ve kinda got to live in the moment.” the 22-year-old told South London Press.

“If you’re too concerned on that then you are not going to focus on the now. The now is going to dictate what happens in the summer.

“Obviously you have plans but that’s more for my agent, later in the season.

“You’ve got to be focused on the season, even though there aren’t many midweek games coming up for us.

“We’ve got a busy February so I need to get my head down, get these little niggles out the way, stay fit and make sure I am playing well.”

Styles has made 17 Championship appearances for Millwall so far this campaign.

Just over half of those have come from the start.

The Verdict

It’s quite understandable that Callum Styles is simply focusing on his football for now.

As he explained, his agent can deal with the rest for the time being, allowing him to concentrate on being the best on the pitch that he can.

That being said, he will surely hope to feature more regularly in the second half of the season, particularly if Millwall are to sign him permanently next summer.

Becoming a regular starter prior to the end of the season should be the challenge Styles sets himself, and then, as he explained, see what the summer brings in terms of a transfer or a potential return to Barnsley.
