Callum Hudson-Odoi will return to Chelsea this summer after failing to impress on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, according to Sky Germany.

The 22-year-old has scored only one goal and registered one assist in his 17 appearances for Die Werkself. Neither party wants to continue their relationship beyond this season.

Hudson-Odoi joined Leverkusen during the summer transfer window, hoping for playing time in Germany. While he has had time on the pitch, he has not repaid it with his performances.

His measly goal contributions and penchant for being inconspicuous during games have left the Bundesliga club unimpressed.

Hudson-Odoi started on the bench in the first game following the return of the Bundesliga after the 2022 World Cup. He came on for the final 15 minutes but could not do anything against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Head coach Xabi Alonso started the winger in the next game against Bochum but brought him off at half-time.

Hudson-Odoi was once a target for Bayern Munich, but Chelsea fought tooth and nail to keep him away from the Bavarians.

However, the Cobham academy graduate has since suffered injuries that have halted his development. He went to Germany to get consistent game time, but things have not gone according to plan.

Hudson-Odoi will struggle to find space in Chelsea when he returns this summer, with the club adding Raheem Sterling, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke to their squad.

There are reports that Arsenal are monitoring his situation. The Gunners missed out on Mudryk to Chelsea and could move for Hudson-Odoi.

The reports claim that the three-cap England international will push for an exit this summer. His contract with Chelsea expires in 2024.
