Manchester City Academy graduate Callum Doyle was delighted to win back on home soil as England U20s defeated Germany 2-0 at the Academy Stadium.

Doyle, who is currently enjoying a very successful loan-spell at Championship side Coventry City, played the full 90 minutes as Ian Foster's Young Lions triumphed thanks to a brace from Samuel Iling-Junior.

It's been a while since the 19-year-old called the Academy Stadium his home, but he admitted after the game he was pleased to have worn the Three Lions shirt back on familiar ground.

He said: "It is always a good privilege (to play for England) and playing on home soil in Manchester it’s even better.

"It is good to be back and like I said, good to see a few faces I’ve seen before."

Playing on the left-hand side of a back three, the defender had a lot to be proud of to keep out an exciting Germany side.

On the clean sheet, he explained: "That is what defenders want.

"We went out there, obviously, not to concede, the back-three have done their job well.

"It was always going to be a tough game.

"But I feel like the lads did well, especially Sam (Iling-Junior) scoring the two goals."

Doyle was in familiar company in Foster's squad, with fellow Academy graduates Liam Delap and Sam Edozie also featuring, whilst Luke Mbete was an unused substitute.

"It was obviously good to see them boys again," he smiled.
