Hakan Calhanoglu congratulated his former side AC Milan for reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and revealed that he still has respect for the management.
Calhanoglu has often been the subject of ridicule given that he missed out on the Scudetto with Milan in 2020-21 as Inter pipped the Rossoneri to the title, and he then chose to cross the city divide and join the blue half of the city but became an onlooker as Milan won it last season.
However, the Turkey international was the one smiling last night as Inter racked up their fourth derby win in a row, and this time it was also enough to book a place in the final of the Champions League in Istanbul next month.
Calhanoglu spoke to Mediaset after the game to reflect on a memorable night for him and his team-mates, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.
“Congratulations to Milan: they too did a good job. It was a difficult game. We did a good job. I’m very happy,” he said.
“Derbies are always tough, unfortunately for me even more. But the past is the past. Always shooting is not good. I get along with all my former team-mates, there is respect for Maldini and Massara. Ricky is my neighbour and we always see each other. The important thing is that there is respect.”
