According to Gol, injury time in the El Clásico on Saturday should have been at least 10 minutes. In total, nine substitutions were made, multiple VAR checks were performed, and most importantly, the referee had to change his mic system due to the torrential rains.

A detailed calculation shows that all these events’ summation added up to 9 minutes 50 seconds. The actual time given was 4 minutes, which is six minutes adrift from the calculations.

There were a lot of controversial decisions in the game, and some were surely debatable. However, time is something that is absolute in nature. Everyone watching the match was surprised as the 4th referee lifted the board showing only four minutes to be added on.

The comeback victory against Granada gives more context to these five minutes as the Catalan club managed a scintillating comeback in injury time against Granada.

Barça had started the Clásico very poorly. However, they came back stronger in the second half and dominated the game near the final minutes. Ilaix Moriba struck the crossbar too in the last minute with a scintillating strike. A few more minutes would have surely seen some more attacks and, who knows, maybe an equalizer too.

Other than the injury time, there were two major controversial penalty decisions, both around Real Madrid’s left-back, Ferland Mendy. One involved a challenge on Ousmane Dembele, as he was pushed from the back by the French, and the other, a more obvious one, saw the French defender pulling Martin Braithwaite from the back.

The entire team has been very loud in their protests, and we can only hope that changes will be made for the overall betterment of the league. Considering that we head to the last 8 matches in the league, and the fact that only two points separate the top three, with a few decisions here and there things can end up very differently.
