Over the past decade, two current Premier League clubs have spent most of their money on Liverpool players. Moises Caicedo is typical of Arsenal’s new focus.

Since the start of the 2012/13 season, which clubs are sent the most money by Premier League outfits? Arsenal love giving Brighton cash, albeit not quite enough to secure Moises Caicedo. And Everton’s is perhaps the least surprising of all. Except for probably Wolves.

Arsenal

Number of signings: Two

Money spent: £99m

Brighton are fourth, just behind Real Madrid and Manchester City, having received £77m from Arsenal over the years. if their asking price is met.

Aston Villa

Spent most money on players from: Brentford

Number of signings: Three

Money spent: £49m

Players signed: Scott Hogan (£9m), Ezri Konsa (£12m), Ollie Watkins (£28m)

Southampton and Norwich complete the podium for collecting cash from Aston Villa. What an honour and what a trio of teams.

Bournemouth

Spent most money on players from: Liverpool

Number of signings: Six

Money spent: £38.5m

Players signed: Jordon Ibe (£15m), Brad Smith (£4.5m), Nathaniel Clyne (loan), Dominic Solanke (£19m), Harry Wilson (loan), Nat Phillips (loan)

There must be some deadwood Liverpool want to offload; Curtis Jones has a suitably Bournemouth name but has he fallen that far yet?

Brentford

Players signed: Nick Proschwitz (free), Moses Odubajo (free), Keane Lewis-Potter (£16m, rising to £20m)

They tend to shop around instead of focusing on players from one club, Thomas Frank and the lads.

Brighton

Money spent: £24m

Players signed: Davy Propper (£10m), Jurgen Locadia (£14m)

It took a while for Brighton to realise they ought to just focus on signing South American teenagers and amazing, unknown Japanese wingers.

Chelsea

Money spent: £180m

Players signed: N’Golo Kante (£30m), Danny Drinkwater (£35m), Ben Chilwell (£45m) and Wesley Fofana (£70m)

You win the league *one time* and Chelsea sign all your players, even after you turn a bit sh*t.

Crystal Palace

Spent most money on players from: Liverpool

Number of signings: Five

Money spent: £55m

Players signed: Martin Kelly (£2m), Christian Benteke (£27m), Mamadou Sakho (loan, then £26m) and Nathaniel Clyne (free)

Liverpool owe Palace about one-ninth of a League Cup for their invaluable but otherwise thankless contribution to recent Anfield glory.

Everton

Spent most money on players from: Barcelona

Number of signings: Six

Money spent: £71.4m

Players signed: Gerard Deulofeu (loan, then £4.3m), Lucas Digne (£18m), Andre Gomes (loan, then £22m) and Yerry Mina (£27.1m)

That absolutely, irrefutably, completely checks out. We’re a huge club, look. Sign players from Barcelona and that. Ones they don’t want but still. What do you mean, there’s no money left? Call Kia immediately.

Fulham

Number of signings: Two

Money spent: £29m

Players signed: Jean Michael Seri (£25m) and Maxime Le Marchand (£4m)

That really does take the biscuit etc.

Leeds

Spent most money on players from: Salzburg

Number of signings: Three

Money spent: £51.3m

Players signed: Brenden Aaronson (£29.5m), Rasmus Kristensen (£10.8m) and Maximilian Wober (£11m)

That’s what you get for appointing Jesse Marsch. Leipzig are second in terms of money generated through player sales to Leeds (£38m), who the kids might suggest are twerking for that Red Bull investment.

Leicester

Money spent: £50m

Players signed: Youri Tielemans (loan, then £40m) and Rachid Ghezzal (£10m)

Claudio Ranieri, bringing two of his many thousand former clubs together.

Liverpool

Money spent: £171m

Players signed: Adam Lallana (£25m), Rickie Lambert (£4.5m), Dejan Lovren (£20m), Nathaniel Clyne (£12.5m), Sadio Mane (£34m) and Virgil van Dijk (£75m)

It became a running joke for good reason. James Ward-Prowse could free-kick Liverpool back to competence.

Manchester City

Money spent: £115.8m

Players signed: Javi Garcia (£15.8m), Ederson (£35m) and Ruben Dias (£65m)

Benfica are absolute masters at this and Manchester City don’t mind giving them a helping hand. But they probably won’t double that outlay by signing Enzo Fernandez.

Man Utd

Number of signings: Four

Money spent: £180.6m

Players signed: Daley Blind (£13.8m), Donny van de Beek (£34.6m), Lisandro Martinez (£46.7m) and Antony (£85.5m)

Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Everton complete a top five with absolutely no odd one out in sight.

Newcastle

Spent most money on players from: Real Sociedad

Number of signings: One

Money spent: £63m

Players signed: Alexander Isak (£63m)

For the team Newcastle have sent the most money for multiple players, step forward Lille and the £37m they have received over the years for Mathieu Debuchy and Sven Botman.

Nottingham Forest

Spent most money on players from: Wolves

Number of signings: Seven

Money spent: £28.3m

Players signed: Adlene Guedioura (£1.3m), Dorus de Vries (free), Joao Teixeira (loan), Leo Bonatini (loan), Rafa Mir (loan), Morgan Gibbs-White (£25m), Willy Boly (£2m)

By contrast, Nottingham Forest have signed 10 players from Olympiakos in the last decade and only spent about £4m to do so.

Southampton

Sebastien Haller almost eclipsed that quartet on his own with a club-record signing worth £45m, although it should be noted that he probably didn’t activate many of the clauses necessary to reach that overall figure.

Wolves
