Serie A have announced that Cagliari will face no action after Juventus striker Moise Kean was racially abused at the Sardegna Arena on 2 April.
Kean scored in his side’s 2-0 win on the day and celebrated in front of the home supporters behind the goal after he, Alex Sandro and Blaise Matuidi had been on the receiving end of monkey chants.
The incident put pressure on Serie A to take serious action and the league announced they would be taking the time to investigate the matter thoroughly.
However, six weeks later, Serie A has announced that the Sardinian club will face no further punishment the chants had “an objectively limited relevance” during the match.
Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci and manager Massimiliano Allegri both received criticism for their condemnation of Kean’s celebration, while Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini claimed at the time that any player would have received the same abuse.
Serie A has seen a number of other racist incidents this season. Inter faced a two-match stadium closure after some of their supporters were found guilty of racially abusing Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in December.
More recently, Lazio were handed suspended partial stadium closure after racist chants were directed at Milan midfielder Tiémoué Bakayoko.
