Former AC Milan defender Cafu believes that this would be the ‘best Scudetto’ in the history of the club when considering various factors, if they were to go on and win it.

Not many had Milan down as favourites for the league title going into the 2021-22 season but after winning 10 of their first 11 league games things started to look very promising. A few blips along the way preceded huge wins against Inter, Napoli, Lazio and most recently Atalanta.

The Rossoneri are now on the cusp of winning their first Scudetto since the 2010-11 season. They just need to avoid defeat against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium – a game which could very well be a tough encounter – in order to ensure they finish above Inter.

Former Rossoneri full-back Cafu talked about Milan’s season so far and the possibility of winning the league during an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, and our colleagues at SempreMilan.it transcribed his comments.

“If we consider where he started from, with which elements and with which opponents, we must necessarily argue that this would be the best Scudetto for Milan. It would be a success built over time, day after day, workout after workout,” he said.

On Pioli: “He was able to work on the group, on the players, led them to improve their performance and hid some inevitable gaps with enthusiasm. He was a bit of a psychologist, a bit of a family man, but above all he proved to be a great coach, that’s why he deserves to be among the winning coaches on the bench of this great club.”

On how Milan play: “When I watch a Milan match, I feel happy, I enjoy it: they attack, fight, never give up. They are a beautiful team to look at, with many attacking solutions and a full-back, Theo Hernandez, who pushes a lot on his wing, just like I would have done. But do you realise the miracle they are doing? They put themselves above the reigning champion Inter, Napoli, Juventus, Roma… Hopefully this success would be a masterpiece, I can’t find other words.”
