Borussia Dortmund celebrated the opening of their permanent representation in New York City by inviting 300 guests from the fields of politics, business and sport to the One World Trade Centre – the USA's tallest building – on Thursday evening (local time).
The new US office – from which BVB will manage their internationalisation efforts, above all in the North American region but also in Central and South America – is the eight-time German champions' third overseas office. Borussia Dortmund are also represented on the Asian continent with offices in Shanghai (China) and Singapore.
"It's important to be present in markets long-term with our own staff and to speak to people on the ground. We therefore decided to open another office in New York. Servicing the entire American market from Dortmund would not do justice to this important matter in the long term," commented BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer.
BVB have been working in a targeted manner on the US market for years alongside their strategic partners Puma and Evonik and currently also cooperate with five partners headquartered in the USA (EA FC, Workday, Coinbase, Prime, Topps).
"In view of the 2025 Club World Cup and the 2026 Men's World Cup in particular, we are witnessing a sharp increase in interest in football in this part of the world and are delighted to be able to bring our special history closer to the local people. We currently have high hopes of qualifying for the Club World Cup," said Hans-Joachim Watzke, Chairman of the BVB Board of Management.
In recent years, Borussia Dortmund have travelled to the USA four times with their team as a representative of the German Football League (DFL), playing friendly fixtures against clubs from the English Premier League and local teams as well as attending marketing and charity events. BVB have been running a football academy in the USA for some time now, organising training camps at 18 locations across the country from their base in Dallas, Texas.
The head of the new office in New York City is Marc Lingenhoff, who previously worked for sporting goods manufacturer adidas for 16 years – including in the USA.
