Manchester United wanted him but it looks like a deal is off … Jadon Sancho is staying at Borussia Dortmund.
“Jadon Sancho will play for us in the upcoming season. The decision is final,” Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc told reporters on Monday.
“I think that answers all your questions.”
On top of that decision, Zorc announced Sancho’s contract was secretly extended by a further year last summer.
“Last summer we already raised Jadon’s wage to fit his development. In connection with that, we extended his contract to 2023.”
Local newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten insist that no release clause was included in this new deal.
Manchester United had hoped to sign Sancho this summer but had reportedly been unwilling to meet Dortmund’s €120m asking price.
Reports suggested they were confident on a deal for a player with just two years remaining on his contract. However, the extension changes things.
Dortmund had set United a 10 August deadline to submit a reasonable offer but that seems to have not been taken seriously and he will remain in Germany for 2020/21.
