Departing Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets has named the historic 5-0 win over Real Madrid and the 6-1 victory over PSG as his favourite memories at Spotify Camp Nou.

Busquets will be leaving the club soon and played his last game for the Blaugrana last night against RCD Mallorca, following which he, as well as Jordi Alba, were given a fitting farewell by the club and the fans.

Barcelona will also be bidding goodbye to Camp Nou as we know it as the stadium will be renovated as part of the Espai Barça project.

As such, the match against Mallorca was the last one to be played at the historic stadium, with Barça set to relocate to the Montjuic Olympic Stadium for the next year and a half.

Earlier today, the club officially started the construction of the new stadium by placing a ceremonial first stone at the stadium, with president Joan Laporta, manager Xavi Hernandez, and Busquets among those who were present at the event.

And the 34-year-old midfielder was asked to pick his favourite memories at the legendary stadium and he had no hesitation in choosing the triumphant 5-0 win over Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid in 2010 and the 6-1 remontada against PSG in 2017.

“Since I was a child I have had a special bond with Barça and with time, even more so. I’ve had captains who have been an example to me. It’s been a great fortune. I’ll always remember the 5-0 win over Real Madrid and the 6-1 win over PSG in the Champions League, they’ll always be in the memory of all Barça fans,” he said.

Meanwhile, manager Xavi Hernandez also spoke at the event and highlighted that last night’s win was a great way to say goodbye to Alba, Busquets, and Camp Nou, as he said:

“It was a great night to say goodbye to Busquets, Alba and the Camp Nou with a victory. At Can Barça you always suffer. From the bench you suffer more, and also in the stands as a fan. That’s the way we Catalans are, if we don’t suffer, we don’t enjoy it.”
