It could be a battle between two League One teams to try and sign Alex Gorrin from Oxford United this summer, with Football Insider reporting that both Burton and Charlton are keen to snap him up.

Burton will want to recruit well this summer to push them back towards the top end of the third tier table, with the side looking solid in the first half of the campaign but falling away in the second.

As for the Addicks, they have looked much brighter under Johnnie Jackson and will want to ensure that they too are amongst the promotion-chasing pack next season. Both now have eyes on bringing in Alex Gorrin to help them do so.

The midfielder has been with Oxford for three seasons now but his playing time has gradually decreased over the years. This campaign he was limited to just 13 league outings – although that is largely down to an injury ruling him out of the team for the majority of the League One season.

However, even though Gorrin has played in 79 Oxford league games during his career, this could prove to be his last season in U’s colours. That’s because his injury has come during a contract year – meaning that unless he signs a new deal before the start of the summer window, he will be leaving his current side.

As of yet, there is no fresh deal agreed – and that means both Burton and Charlton could sign him up for absolutely nothing over summer. Gorrin though has been offered new terms with Oxford in the hopes of keeping him on but as of yet, he is still to put pen-to-paper.

With this interest emerging then, his head could be turned – and we could see him depart the U’s when the window opens.

Oxford United clearly want to try and keep hold of Gorrin, otherwise they wouldn’t have offered him a fresh contract. He might have spent most of the season sidelined but they clearly value him when he is match fit.

However, the U’s have once again missed out on promotion to the Championship and that is the third time in three seasons he has been there that they have done so. In fact, they have finished gradually further and further down the division since Gorrin signed – which perhaps isn’t a promising sign for the midfielder.

Instead, he could now be tempted by a switch elsewhere. Charlton look like a team on the up under Johnnie Jackson, it just depends how they recruit this summer and whether the new boss can do it over a full season.

Burton also looked bright at the start of the year but tailed off. Some good recruitment could put them back into the top half on a more consistent basis. Either way, there are plenty of options now for Gorrin to seemingly choose from.
