Burton Albion have rejected two offers from Hibernian and Gillingham for defender Deji Oshilaja, according to Football Insider.

The 29-year-old joined the Brewers back in the summer of 2021 after his contract at League One side Charlton Athletic had expired.

Since joining Burton, the central defender has appeared 67 times for the club and has managed to score seven times and provide four assists.

However, the 29-year-old is now in the final six months of his contract at Burton, and it seems the League One side will have a battle to keep hold of the defender.

According to Football Insider, both Hibernian and Gillingham have made approaches for Oshilaja and they have both been turned down by Burton.

Oshilaja has played 26 times for the Brewers in League One this season and has managed two goals and provided two assists.

Burton are currently sitting in the relegation places in League One, four points above bottom side Forest Green Rovers and are two points adrift of Morecambe in 19th place.

Burton claimed all three points on Saturday as they beat Oxford United 2-0, their third win in their last five games in the league.

Now, Burton will be hoping they can reject any offers for Oshilaja between now and the 11 p.m. deadline on Tuesday, as they prepare for an important game against Accrington Stanley at the weekend.

The Verdict

Burton will not want to let one of their most important players leave with only hours remaining in the transfer window.

Despite the fact the defender will be a free agent in the summer if no extension on his current deal is agreed, Oshilaja is too important for Burton in their aspirations to stay in League One to be sold this month.

However, it is unclear what the offers were for the 29-year-old, and if one of these teams were to make a significant offer, it may be too much for Burton to turn down.
