Burnley are more interested in making a move for Antoine Semenyo in the summer rather than the current transfer window, according to the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (25/01, 09:48).

It is understood that the Clarets are one of several sides who currently retain an interest in the Bristol City forward.

A report from The Telegraph journalist John Percy revealed that Crystal Palace are considering submitting an offer for Semenyo.

AFC Bournemouth meanwhile had offers believed to be in the region of £8m and £10m for Semenyo rejected by the Robins last week.

Burnley are keen on Semenyo but are seemingly now only willing to add him to their squad following the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign.

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson recently revealed that the club had opted to turn down an offer for Semenyo from the Clarets.

Burnley are on course to secure an immediate return to the Premier League as they are currently flying under the guidance of manager Vincent Kompany.

The Clarets are 18 points clear of Watford who are third in the Championship while they also hold a five point advantage over Sheffield United in the race for the league title.

Burnley will make their return to action in this division next month following their FA Cup clash with Ipswich Town.

The Verdict

When you consider that Burnley are closing in on sealing a deal for Westerlo striker Lyle Foster, it is hardly a surprise that they are willing to wait until the summer to continue their pursuit of Semenyo.

Whether Semenyo will still be at Ashton Gate by the time the next window opens remains to be seen as he is currently attracting a great deal of interest from the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has provided 34 direct goal contributions in the Championship during his career and certainly possesses the talent required to play at a higher level in the future.

Bristol City will be keen to keep Semenyo at the club for the remainder of the season as the forward could help them achieve a relative amount of success by maintaining his fitness and improving his consistency at this level.
